Electrical Discharge Machining of Alumina Using Cu-Ag and Cu Mono- and Multi-Layer Coatings and ZnO Powder-Mixed Water Medium

The paper aims to extend the current knowledge on electrical discharge machining of insulating materials, such as cutting ceramics used produce inserts machine nickel-based alloys in aviation and aerospace industries. Aluminum-based Al2O3, AlN, SiAlON are most demand industry but present a scientific technical problem obtaining sophisticated shapes. One existing solutions is using assisting techniques. Using Cu-Ag Cu mono- multi-layer coatings 40–120 µm ZnO powder-mixed deionized water-based medium was proposed for first time. developed were subjected tempering testing. It noticed that Ag-adhesive reduced performance when had slight effect. unveiled relationship between material removal rate, powder concentration, pulse frequency showed significantly improved by adding up 0.0032–0.0053 mm3/s concentration 14 g/L 2–7 kHz. Further increase leads opposite trend. remarkable results corresponded duration 1 µs. obtained data enlarged texturing various mediums.
